I still remember when the first electric scooters started buzzing around our cities. They were well-intentioned, but you wouldn't exactly want to be seen leaving the party on one of them. They were meek, slow, and had all the personality of a beige filing cabinet. Oh, how the times have changed. Now, electric scooters are the life of the urban party, and honestly, the old gas-guzzlers are starting to look a little dated.

Thanks to a serious push from city planners with their tax breaks and EV-only zones, everyone and their grandmother seems to be zipping around on electric two-wheelers these days. At least in Europe. Big names like NIU and Silence are practically part of the furniture in most European towns. But every now and then, a new player saunters in, taps the big guys on the shoulder, and says, "Mind if I cut in?" This time, that dashing newcomer is from Spain, and it goes by the name of Nerva.

I first heard about Nerva a few years back when they launched their first scooter, the Exe. It was a solid, sensible effort – a perfectly lovely commuter. But its follow-up, the Exe II, is something else entirely. It had a complete glow-up. It's sleeker, more confident, and looks like it's been hitting the gym. But as we all know, it's what's on the inside that counts, and in this case, the inside is where the real magic is happening.

The Exe II is packing a new liquid-cooled motor that gives you a steady 15 horsepower, but it can flex up to nearly 26 ponies when you're feeling a bit feisty. What does that mean in real life? It means you can hit a top speed of 81 miles per hour. This isn't just for popping down to the local bakery; this scooter is ready for the actual freeway. You can now commute with the big boys without feeling like a bicycle in a buffalo stampede.

The most important part of any electric vehicle is the battery. It's the heart, the soul, the very essence of its being. And Nerva has not skimped here. They've once again teamed up with the battery wizards at BYD to fit the Exe II with a single, magnificent 7.83 kWh Blade LFP battery. This battery is rated for over 6,000 charge cycles. Let me put that in perspective for you. If you charged it every single day, it would take over sixteen years to hit that number. This battery will likely outlast your desire to ever commute again.

But what about charging? We commuters don't have all day! And thankfully, we don't need it. The Exe II has a nifty 3.3 kW onboard charger that can get you from zero to an 80% charge in just two hours. A full charge takes two and a half hours. That's quicker than binge-watching a season of your favorite show. You can plug it into a standard Type 2 port, grab a coffee and a very large pastry, and be ready to roll before you've even had time to doom-scroll through your social media feed.

Of course, the Exe II has driving modes. Every self-respecting EV has modes. For your sensible Monday morning commute, there's Eco mode, which will stretch your range to 112 miles. Normal mode gives you a very respectable 87 miles. And the Sport mode unleashes all 26 of those wild horses for a thrilling 56-mile ride.

The cockpit is just as impressive. You get a giant 8.8-inch TFT screen that's bright and responsive, with all the bells and whistles: navigation, diagnostics, and even keyless start. The Exe II is also loaded with practical features that make a real difference in daily life. We have dual-channel ABS, traction control, and even a reverse gear for those awkward parking moments. And my personal favorite? Under-seat storage big enough for two helmets. You can actually bring a friend! Or, you know, just have extra space for an impulse grocery run.

So, what's the damage for all this Spanish splendor? It comes in at around $9,380, thanks to our dollar dropping like a stone for the last few weeks. That's not exactly pocket change, not by my standards. Sure, when you look at what you're getting, it starts to make a little bit more sense. You're getting freeway speeds, a battery that lasts longer than most celebrity marriages, and enough tech to keep you busy on the morning run. 

But $10,000 for a scooter? I don't know. The Nerva Exe II fits perfectly in a world where silent, clean, and clever is the new cool. It promises a riding experience with no drama, no anxiety, and absolutely no smelly dinosaur juice. On paper, it sounds like the perfect urban dance partner. And good partners don't always come cheap.
