It is often said that good things come to those who wait. In the case of the automotive industry, usually, we wait about five minutes before the next shiny object distracts us entirely. But today, we are circling back to a bit of old news that has suddenly become new news again. The illustrious judges at EyesOn Design - a group of designers and educators who likely own many turtleneck sweaters - have just bestowed the title of "Best Concept Vehicle" for 2026 upon the Cadillac Elevated Velocity.
You might be scratching your head, thinking, "Didn't we see this thing ages ago?" You and me both - and we would be right. It was unveiled last year. The awarding body is a bit fashionably late to the party, like a rock star showing up to a gig after the audience has already gone home to put the kettle on. But let's not be churlish. The win is well-deserved. This marks the second year in a row Cadillac has snagged this honor, following the Opulent Velocity, which I'm told is not a perfume for wealthy sprinters.

So, for those of you who missed it the first time around, or for those who simply want to bask in the lunacy of it all once more, let me reintroduce you to the Elevated Velocity. It is a machine that proves engineers shouldn't be allowed to drink espresso after midnight.
First off, the name. "Elevated Velocity." EV. Do you see what they did there? It is a pun! I love a good pun almost as much as I love a properly poured pint of Guinness. The name references the fact that it rides high off the ground (Elevated), goes like a scalded cat (Velocity), and is an electric vehicle - an EV. I wonder how long it took them to come up with that?

Visually, it is striking. It's a 2+2 crossover that sits on 24-inch wheels. Twenty-four inches is not a wheel; that is a water mill where I come from. It gives the car a stance that says it could cross rivers without so much as a twitch. And then there are the doors. Gull-wing doors. A "practical family transport" that needs a hangar to open its door? I'll take two. The dramatic doors lift skyward to let you in, and I honestly hope that this very moment is accompanied by a choir of angels singing in the background.
The paint job is something called "Vapor Blue," inspired by glacial ice, apparently. It's cool, crisp, and contrasts beautifully with the fact that the interior is hotter than the surface of the sun - it's an absolute riot of red. Cadillac calls the colors "Morello Red," "Cerise," and "Garnet." It looks like a Valentine's Day card exploded. It is all lush - fine Nappa leather, brushed metal, and 3D-printed patterns inspired by "desert polo."

Wait… Desert polo? Sure, when I buy an electric off-roader, my primary concern is whether it matches my mallet. In fact, Cadillac has included a bespoke polo set in the rear compartment - helmets, knee pads, the works - all matching the car. Pretentious? You bet, I can imagine the target demographic… People who don't own their own islands or who aren't Bond villains needn't apply.
Since we are in concept land, Cadillac decided that the Elevated Velocity shouldn't be just a car. It's a wellness center on giant 24-inch wheels with "User Experience Modes" that sound like they were named by a yoga instructor. Welcome Mode is for when you walk up to the car - the floor, seats, and dash glow soft white. The steering wheel does a little animation reminiscent of "shifting sands." This car is literally wagging its tail when it sees you.

The Elevate Mode is the "I'm tired, you drive" mode - the car goes autonomous. The pedals and steering wheel retract into the dashboard to give you more room to brood. The lighting turns red for "infrared light therapy." The doors backlit panels "breathe" with you. A light on the steering column moves back and forth to help you time your breathing. It is a two-ton metal guru helping you find your center.
My favorite is the Velocity Mode for when you remember you have places to be. The lights turn cool white. The steering wheel pops back out. An Augmented Reality HUD splashes your speed and navigation onto the windshield. It's game time.

Despite all the wellness stuff and posh interior, Cadillac claims this thing is a beast off-road. It has a dedicated "Terra Mode" which pumps up the air suspension for climbing over rocks. It has "Sand Vision," which is like night vision but helps you see through sandstorms. I am sure that will be very useful on the commute through downtown Chicago.
But the pièce de résistance is a feature called "Elements Defy." Imagine you have been out playing polo in the desert and your lovely blue car is covered in dust. Do you wash it? Nope, you activate this mode, and the car uses "dust-phobic vibration" to literally shake the dirt off. It shimmies itself clean like a wet dog. It is the most ridiculous, brilliant solution to a problem I didn't know I had.

Now, usually, I would tell you the price and how fast it hits 60 mph. But since this is a concept, Cadillac has been tight-lipped. They mention "hypercar" levels of thrill and an electric powertrain derived from the V-Series, so expect it to be frighteningly fast. As for the price? If they ever built it, it would likely cost "all of the money."
The Elevated Velocity is late to get its award, yes. But this wild Cadillac is beautiful and completely mad. It's a breathing, shaking, polo-playing tank. Cadillac, please, for the love of all that has wheels, build it.
